Onsen for day trips to Yokohama

With Yokohama being a very popular spot to visit from Tokyo, you may be thinking of spending just a day or even just a few hours exploring the city.

If so, the following are a few locations where you can stop and use an onsen without having to stay overnight.

Manyo-Club is a spa facility located just an 8-minute walk from Minatomirai station. The baths use water from two onsen towns in the same prefecture, making it a natural hot spring. You can find a variety of indoor and outdoor baths.

The rental fees include a yukata and two towels, so you can visit Manyo-Club empty-handed. Manyo-Club also has options for those who want to stay the night and get the most out of everything it has to offer.

On the top floor, you can find an “ashiyu,” which is an onsen you soak only your feet in. This shallow bath is in a ring shape that spans the whole floor so you can look down onto the city from all different angles. On a clear day, there is even a chance to see Mt. Fuji. Yokohama is known for its beautiful nighttime cityscape, so we recommend visiting this area at night.

RAKU SPA Tsurumi is a spa facility located in the Tsurumi Ward of Yokohama; it is a bit inconvenient to get to, but there are shuttle buses that depart from many of the stations in the area. The buses from Tsurumi Station depart every 15 minutes, so it would be wise to travel from there.

Hotels and ryokan with onsen in Yokohama

Next, we will be introducing some hotels and ryokan in Yokohama with onsen. Depending on the location, some of these locations also offer plans for those just looking to use the onsen on a day trip.

If you are looking for a place to spend the night, these are some of our recommendations.

APA Hotels&Resort Yokohama Bay Tower (アパホテル&リゾート〈横浜ベイタワー〉)

APA Hotels is a popular chain of hotels that operates all around the country. They are known for being cost-effective and accessible in their locations. If you are looking to stay near the city at a reasonable price, we recommend this hotel.

You can find the public bathing area on the fourth floor, with both a large indoor and an outdoor bath. The onsen water is modified, so note that it will not be 100% natural but still has the full effects of all-natural springs. If you like to swim, there is also an outdoor pool that is refreshing during the summer months.

An experience that you might be looking for if you are coming to Japan is staying in a capsule hotel. For those unfamiliar, capsule hotels offer tiny rooms that resemble pill capsules; they are usually arranged on top of one another like bunk beds but are completely private and come with the amenities of a regular hotel. Capsule hotels are generally very cost-effective and you can find them in many major cities.

Capsule Plus Yokohama is a capsule hotel located just a two-minute walk from Yokohama Station, making it very easy to access. You can choose to book a capsule for the night, or just if you need a place to spend a few hours (maybe if you missed the last train) and enjoy a public bath.

Inn MATSUSHIMA (旅館松島)

Inn MATSUSHIMA is our recommendation for anyone who wants to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan that is also not too far from the city. Inn MATSUSHIMA is located just a four-minute walk to Maita Station, which is then a 12-minute train ride to Yokohama Station.

Note that the public bath is not a completely all-natural onsen, but it takes stones from an onsen in Hokkaido. It is also quite small compared to the large-scale spas that are on this list, but perfect for those who are interested in staying in Japan like a local.

Another aspect that will truly make you feel like you are in Japan at Inn MATSUSHIMA is the food. There are multiple courses to choose from and all are traditional Japanese style. You will even be eating in a large open room, or as an alternative, you can reserve a private room to eat with just your party; both are also Japanese-style rooms with tatami (bamboo flooring).
