From Sapporo Station, it takes 45 minutes and 1 transfer, or 60 minutes by car. The closest station is Otaru, and they have a service car for picking up guests.

Otaru Kourakuen is a Japanese onsen ryokan that is surrounded by lush nature-rich gardens in Otaru. They are located 40 minutes away from Sapporo station by car, or an hour away by train and bus. The halls are lined with tatami mats and you can feel the traditional atmosphere from the moment you step into the Lobby.

Book a room with a private onsen attached and enjoy relaxing with a bath in the garden whenever you please. The rooms are perfect for spending time with your partner or your family. They also have a private onsen for rental, so if you book a room without a private onsen, make sure to reserve a 45-minute time slot for 2,200 JPY.

The public onsen are nothing to underestimate either. The large baths made of stone are concentrated on the first floor, right in the middle of the beautifully well-kept Japanese gardens. Nukumorino Yado Furukawa is 50 minutes away from Sapporo station by car, and 80 minutes away by bus. Furukawa is a traditional onsen ryokan with plenty of Japanese hospitality, where you can enjoy relaxing onsen as much as you’d like.

They have special rooms on the 8th floor that give you amazing views of the treetops that you can enjoy while soaking in a private onsen. These rooms are perfect for relaxing with your partner or your family. There are also plenty of special amenities that are only available on the 8th floor, like a nighttime candlelit lounge, a book corner, a free drink bar, a special private rental onsen, and a luxury kaiseki restaurant. On the regular floors, there is only one room type with an attached onsen. If you don’t mind, jump into the 8th-floor public onsen with a view of fantastic scenery. Or, pay 500 JPY to enter a remodeled version of the original bath built in the ryokan in 1866 using the same wood. There is a stone bath and a private onsen both available for reservation for 50 minutes at 2,200 JPY.

Shogetsu Grand Hotel is a hotel located in central Jozankei, 50 minutes away from Sapporo Station. There are no trains to Jozankei, but luckily Shogetsu runs a free bus service to and from Sapporo Station. Make sure to make a reservation for the bus when you book your room. Right when you arrive, they offer you Jozankei local manju, tea, and an all-you-can-eat honey buffet.

Book the premium room or the comfort spa room for a luxury private onsen experience. The comfort spa room comes equipped with a jet spa jacuzzi instead of a traditional onsen, which is perfect for those who want a massage after a long day of skiing or snowboarding. If you book a room without a private attached onsen don’t worry. There are two private onsen available for rent for 50 minutes at 3,300 JPY. The onsen water is 75 C at the source and is said to help muscle and joint pain, bruises, sprains, poor circulation, fatigue, cuts, burns, and much more. Jozankei Daiichi Hotel Suizantei is a hotel in Jozankei that’s 55 minutes away from Sapporo Station by car. They also have a bus that will take you straight from Sapporo Station to the hotel and back, but make sure to call ahead and reserve a spot. There are many different types of rooms and plans, so double check when you book your room that you’re getting all of the amenities that you want!

At Daiichi Hotel Suizantei there are many rooms with private onsen attached. There are rooms that have shallow 5 cm deep baths, so you can lay down and relax without getting your ears wet! If you like to watch movies, some rooms have HD projectors or large flatscreen TVs. Depending on the room, you may be able to see the screen from the onsen!

There are private onsen available for rent 24 hours a day, 40 minutes cost 3,300 JPY. If you end up booking a room without a private onsen, know that the large public onsen are open until 3 A.M. the next day. You might be able to soak in a large bath at a time when there aren’t many other people using it. Don’t forget to check out the relaxation room with massage chairs and picturesque nature before checking out.

Suizantei Club Jozankei is a luxury hotel that’s 50 minutes away from Sapporo station by car and an
hour away by bus. They have a free shuttle bus that you can reserve spots on when you book your room. Club Jozankei is only for guests above the age of 13, so if you have kids they will have to find a different hotel.

Each room is equipped with a large indoor onsen that is connected to the onsen source. Enjoy pure and natural onsen waters while listening to your own music on the Bluetooth speakers. If you want an open-air onsen, book one of the rooms that have onsen outside! You’ll be able to enjoy a relaxing evening in rejuvenating waters with an onsen that is perfect for couples.

Club Jozankei has a special mixture of 3 different sources of onsen water. The water is on average 69 C and has a skin-beautifying effect. The water is mineral-rich, and the many large public onsen are open until 3 A.M. so you may be able to go in when it isn’t busy. Before you leave, definitely stop at their confectionary workshop for delicious Japanese and Western sweets made with ingredients local to Hokkaido.

MORI NO UTA is designed to be like a forest and surrounds guests with greenery from the second they step foot inside. They even offer marshmallows for roasting over the center fireplace inside.

MORI NO UTA offers cottages with an open-air private onsen that are detached from the main building for the ultimate privacy and relaxation experience. Kasho Gyoen is 70 minutes away from Sapporo Station by bus and 60 minutes away by car. They are located in the middle of a beautiful mountain range of Shikotsu Toya National Park. Nature there is undeveloped and green, perfect for those who want to experience the natural Hokkaido landscape just a short while from Sapporo.

Every room is fitted with an onsen that looks out over the Jozankei forrest. There is no public onsen, but the private onsen is fairly large and is the perfect size for two people. Each room, including the onsen, are built using quality materials that are local to Hokkaido. The source water is known as one of the three great beauty springs, and because they are actually on the outskirts of Jozankei, they use Usubetsu Onsen source, a different source than their neighbors. The water is known for its beautifying and skin-smoothening effects.

Yuni Spa Hotel doesn’t have a ton of modern amenities, but it makes up for it with a cozy Hokkaido atmosphere. This hotel is perfect for families and large groups of friends.

There are two types of rooms with open-air onsen, one with a pine bath and one with a clay bath. Pick whichever sounds more interesting, as both will allow you to enjoy high-quality onsen all night! Yuni onsen water is characterized by its light coffee color, its tasteless and odorless, and is said to make your skin silky smooth. The large public open-air baths are also worth visiting, as they’re surrounded by Yuni nature.

Each of the meals is made with fresh ingredients from Hokkaido. Choose from an expansive menu that is constantly changing with the seasons. Futomi Meisen, Man’yo no Yu is 35-minutes away from Sapporo Station by train and 40-minutes by car. Located just north of the Ishikari River, enjoy a relaxing stay without traveling too far from Sapporo. Immerse yourself in an urban onsen and be rejuvenated from the onsen waters. Futomi Meisen is a little different than the classic ryokan, as they specialize in day trips.

If you decide that you only want to visit Futomi Meisen for a day, it’ll only set you back 1,200 JPY. There are many large public onsen so that you can experience natural onsen water and fresh air close to the city. After relaxing in one of the public onsen, get a massage or spa treatment. Choose between an aroma oil course, a beauty treatment course, a Bali-style day spa, a Korean beauty spa, a full-body exfoliation, rock sauna sanctuaries, and much more!

Futomi Meisen only has one type of room that can sleep up to three people. There are no rooms with private onsen attached, so if you want to enter an onsen in private, you’ll have to reserve the rental onsen at 2,200 JPY for an hour.
